How To Call Your Blog?
(if you click on the following link you will get to most inspirational life quotes)
1: Find The Best Travel Blog Name That Suits You
If you’ve decided to take risks and start a blog, you have to make one of the most important decisions as soon as possible, which is what name will you use for your travel blog. A great blog name can propel you to the top; however a bad name can destroy what you’ve tried to build so hard…
I decided to move as happyandfreetobe
It bring a great balance between providing my intention on this site which is to be happy and to have the freedom to realise my dreams & to define the real purpose of the site which is traveling.
Can the domain name lock you in?
Sure, it can… if you are traveling a year in Australia “Kevin in Australia” might seem like a great blog name. But if you decide to become an au-pair in Austria next? Or what if you decide to go back to your home country and not traveling anymore?
I always encourage my readers to do what they want and with passion. Creating a travel blog requires a long-term vision.
If you call your blog with a bad name it will never propel your site on the expectation you have.
I always was thinking long-term before deciding to start my travel blog, I decided to call my travel blog happyandfreetobe.com because it brings the intention of why I am doing the travel site.
Now I understood becoming a professional travel blogger takes time and knew this would be a long process. I’d just have to grow into my new name and brand!
“Life is a journey, not a destination” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
You should always enjoy the process while working on your dreams…
2: Choose The Best Hosting For Your Blog
What is the best hosting plan to choose? You can find some great hosting platform that can host your site. However you must keep in mind that a lot more cheap hosting websites are out there and want to take you on their hosting platform.
If you don’t know what’s hosting, it’s not as difficult as it sounds. To put in a nutshell hosting is a place where websites rent a space on the internet. A simple place to store all your blog’s data, photos, and files so that you can share with people around the world your lovely stories & it can be accessed simply by typing in your domain name.
If you don’t have a hosting plan, you won’t be found on internet although you can own your domain name: eg: www.happyandfreetobe.com.
Hosting does not have to be expensive & I strongly advice you to take a cheap option if you decide to start off a new project. I recommend to use as a new travel blog with Stablehost.
I recommend Stablehost for nearly everyone.
By using Stablehost for almost all of my sites, I receive a great quality hosting ($4.95 per month for 12 months) and I can always get in touch with the support team if something is wrong. They give you a domain name for free too.
3: Install WordPress
WordPress is one of the most recognized publishing platform in the world. It’s easy and used by famous publishers like CNN or People magazine, and nearly every travelpreneur, travel blogger, and blogger I know uses it. You also get a great support if you need assistance.
Stablehost offers one-click WordPress installation, which saves you from struggling through the hassle of hiring someone.
(Optional: Check out on Udemy on How to install WordPress for beginners).
4: Install Plugins
WordPress is a great tool and what it makes it so special are its Plugins. The vast majority of plugins you will find are free.
In the right side bar of your wordpress account, you will find “plugins” and select “add new” to search new plugins by keyword.
You will also receive notifications when plugins need to be updated.
Here are the free plugins that I recommend for new travel bloggers:
Akismet — Keeps spam under control
Comment Reply Notification — Notifies commenters when they have a new reply to their comment.
Contact Form 7 — Install a simple contact form so people can email you through your site.
Google XML Sitemaps — Makes it easy for search engines to find your content.
Ultimate Google Analytics — Installs Google Analytics to measure site’s visitors and traffic.
WordPress SEO by Yoast — Helps you create content that rank better in search engines.
WPTouch Mobile Plugin — Makes your site look nice and easy to read on mobile phones.
5: Be Visible On Social Media
Recommendation : keep the same name accross all domains which will establish a strong brand for your followers.
Keep in mind that social media are really important if you want to attract more readers to your site.
Google is giving more & more importance to social media!
5: Start An Email List
Think of your website as your long-term goal, how can you retain your readers? By emailing them about your stories.
My first big blogging mistake was not starting an email list at first. When I finally did, I made a huge achievement.
6: Join Travel Blog Seminars
if you want to build the kind of travel blog that eventually earns money, you have to learn from the best!
I didn’t want to join travel blog seminars at first. I didn’t think I really needed it, and being a leader by nature, and the fact that many travel bloggers were members didn’t inspire me.
After a while I became a member and I was blown away to see how beneficial the content was. I had access to all the lessons, all the webinars and interviews. The best of all is the impact it has on your confidence when you can share the same experience & journey to a Facebook group.
I always explain to new bloggers to write at least 3 times a week. I started to write 7 times a week for the first 2 weeks and I dropped for another 2 weeks.
You don’t have to write everyday but you have to be consistent in what you are doing & know what you want to achieve.
It won’t be easy to reach out your goals but with patience & care, and a tremendous amount of work, you will reach a lot of experience in this field and will love it.
I already mentioned it but please take the first year as educational and don’t expect to reach any benefits. Before you gain a valuable audience interested in what you want and have to say, you have to work a lot but once you achieve that, the outcome for your hardwork is unbelievable.
Start the journey, now!
